Madame Claudette Delk

Claudette Evon Delk was born and reared in Bowling Green, Kentucky. 
She graduated from Bowling Green High School and is a true BGHS Purple.  Claudette received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Kentucky, with a French major and an English minor. She earned her Masters at  Georgetown College.

Mrs. Delk has one daughter, Laurie.  Laurie graduated from Western Hills and from the University of Kentucky.  Laurie lives near Washington D. C., in Annandale with her husband Brad.  Brad is a Civil Engineer working at the Pentagon.  Laurie is a singer heading her own band  ( Laurie and the Boogadie Cats).

Madame Delk began teaching at Elkhorn Junior High which became Elkhorn Middle School.  During the school year of 1981-1982 Mrs. Delk came to Western Hills, which she loves with all her heart.

Mrs. Delk currently teaches French, is the chair person for Foreign 
Languages, is a KTIP Resource Teacher,  sponsors The French Honor Society, and works with the professional development committee.  Mrs. Delk also takes great pride in attending the Beta Club Convention each year.

At one time or another Mrs. Delk has worked with many different facets of her two schools, including:  assistant basketball coach, drama coach and director of plays, director of the Miss Western Hills pageant, coordinator between teachers and administrators, sponsor of the French Club and the Drama Club, etc.

Western Hills is important to Mrs. Delk and she knows it is the greatest 
school and that it has the best students in the state.


 

Dr. Judith Sherrow Conde

Dr. Judith Sherrow Conde holds a PhD. in Spanish Language and Literature from the University of Kentucky, and an M.A. and B.A. from UK and Berea College respectively.  Dr. Conde has also attended the Universidad de Guadalajara in Mexico, Asbury College, and the University of Kentucky College of Law.  In addition to holding a Rank IAA, Dr. Conde has completed certification for the Middle and Secondary Principalship. She has taught high school for eight years, and at the college level, at the University of Kentucky and Asbury College, for 21. After 16 years on the faculty of Asbury College as a Spanish professor and Divisional Chairperson, Dr. Conde was appointed Academic Dean and Vice President of Academic Affairs in 1992. While at Asbury she also supervised student teachers and taught methods courses for foreign language majors.  She also was director of a partnership program between Asbury College and the Universidad Evangelica Boliviana in Santa Cruz, Bolivia.

Dr. Conde joined the staff of WHHS in 1993, the same year she was inducted into Franklin County High School's Alumni Hall of Fame. (As a former Frankfortonian, she had attended Elkhorn Jr. High School and Franklin County High School, before graduating from Berea Foundation High School.)  At WHHS, she teaches all levels of Spanish and serves as faculty sponsor to the Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica (Spanish Honor Society).  She has also served as a member of the school's Professional Development Committee for seven years and has regularly been a KTIP resource teacher (mentor) for new teachers.  In addition to her duties at WHHS, Dr. Conde teaches Spanish at the Kentucky State Police Academy and is an adjunct faculty member at Lexington Community College. 

She is a member and has held a variety of offices in several professional organizations, including the Modern Language Association, the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese, and the Kentucky Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages. Dr. Conde presently serves as President of KCTFL, the state's professional organization for foreign language teachers. Besides Spanish, she has also studied French, German, Latin, and several Indian languages indigenous to North, Central and South America. She has traveled to Spain, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Bolivia, Brazil, Panama and Venezuela. Beyond the classroom, Dr. Conde has contributed to the field of foreign language education through numerous workshops, conferences, and published articles. 

Mrs. Dawn Smith

D. Smith earned a B.A in Spanish and English Secondary Education from Asbury College and a M.A. in Education from Georgetown College.  She teaches Spanish 1 and Spanish 2.  Other teaching positions Mrs. Smith has held include: Twin Wells Indian School in AZ, The Alliance Academy in Quito, Ecuador, Baileysville High School in WV, and Franklin County High School.
